I just called the term “Fantasy” when I really mean the “Fantasy setting you see in most games” and it starts to feel a little more open. Chrono Trigger’s 1000AD has fireworks, balloons, and tanks, Naruto has television, then there’s this gem; though it’s more of a fusion of a sci-fi and fantasy…and for all we know that “magic” in that show is actually just some long-forgotten science.
Pretty much, the setting here no longer feels so far off with whatever contemporary stuff I can add. Aside from it, I’ve also developed another idea; to make it a contemporary setting in a theme park setting.
Which would be okay except for those floating bubble screens.
What you don’t see in the picture is that those “screens” actually jiggle, as if they’re made of water, but that can be just dismissed as just some miracle plot technology, and I’m sure those things won’t be so far off in real life. In a fantasy setting, it could probably just be either water used as a monitor or some kind of eldritch energy or maybe just the air bending to show embarassing close ups in HD
The original idea for using these bubble screens came from the Oh My Juliet RPG Edition, as some kind of magic ball to serve as the monitor because of all these scrying spheres and magic balls people use for clairvoyance and stuff since that would fit more in a swords and sorcery setting as opposed to the more familiar rectangular screen. I suppose in hindsight I could have used a magic mirror, but mirrors aren’t normally set up like a wide screen, so it would have been pretty moot to consider mirrors anyway.
To make this a theme park setting, it will need to have background stuff that you’d expect: ferris wheels, rollercoaster tracks, and maybe a good old giant circus tent. These are the things I will try adding today, I do have a good looking and colorful ferris wheel, but it was part of a stage and i just need to remember what it’s called.
Another thing I do need to consider in this theme park version is that the characters at the back need to be changed. Normally in a parade float you’d expect some kind of famous character on top. In a fantasy setting, those guys could be whatever that story’s royalty is, showing off their latest conquest.
So I’m thinking of Mascots, and I do have quite a few I could use, so I’ll be trying that one. It might be a good thing too, since I know they’d be much smaller in terms of RAM and processing. If this works, it could give me more leeway to work in those carnival attractions.
Plus, it could finally do this, albeit with Karen.
